Exterior Design
The BYD Dolphin adopts the brand’s distinctive “Ocean Aesthetics” design language, as the first model of BYD’s Ocean Series, which perfectly integrates the image and elements of dolphins into the overall design, consistent with the brand’s new energy design concept. It features a cute and dynamic front fascia with a rounded closed grille inlaid with the new BYD logo, which is matched with the streamlined front bumper and air guide grooves to enhance the sense of fashion and aerodynamic performance significantly. The round and full integrated LED headlights are like the bright eyes of a dolphin, paired with unique arc-shaped daytime running lights, and the rear is equipped with a stylish through-type LED taillight with a wavy design, which is highly recognizable and shows a strong sense of technology when lit. The rear is also fitted with a small rear spoiler and a black decorative bumper, further highlighting its lovely and dynamic charm as a small pure electric car. The body is available in multiple color options, including both two-tone and solid-color designs: the two-tone version has Beibei Gray on the upper part and Dudu White, Pupu Pink or Surf Blue on the lower part, while the solid-color version adds Atlantis Gray and Heat Wave Crimson, catering to the aesthetic needs of young users and female users . In addition, its side profile has a smooth and graceful silhouette like a leaping dolphin, decorated with dynamic waistlines, matched with 16-inch five-hole fin-shaped wheels, blackened door frames and hidden door handles, creating a refined and lively visual effect .
In terms of dimensions, the vehicle measures 4,125 mm in length, 1,770 mm in width, and 1,570 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,700 mm . As a 5-door 5-seat small hatchback, it is built on the BYD e-Platform 3.0, providing a spacious and comfortable interior space that surpasses the same level, even reaching the standard of B-class cars in terms of shoulder, hip and leg space . The rear seats feature an integral folding design, and the whole system is equipped with a layered trunk cover that can be fully flush with the seats, which not only improves the flexibility of storage and seating but also expands the trunk space to meet daily commuting and occasional travel needs, fully reflecting its practicality as a small family car . The overall space layout is reasonable, with sufficient headroom and legroom for both front and rear seats, ensuring a comfortable riding experience for all passengers .
Interior Design
The BYD Dolphin is equipped with a 7-inch full LCD instrument cluster (except for the base model) and a standard 12.8-inch adaptive rotating floating central touchscreen, which is equipped with the latest DiLink intelligent network connection system with a new UI design, delivering a convenient and smooth visual and interactive experience . The system supports intelligent voice interaction with high recognition accuracy, and built-in a large number of APP ecosystems to meet diverse user needs . It also supports OTA remote upgrade, remote vehicle control and Apple NFC unlocking functions, enhancing the convenience of use . The interior design is full of marine elements: the center console adopts a curved surrounding design like ocean waves, the door handles are shaped like dolphin pectoral fins, the speaker covers and defroster air outlets are designed like water ripples, and the air conditioning outlets are in a vortex shape, creating a vivid marine atmosphere . Interior color schemes are consistent with the body color, such as Pupu Pink, Knight Blue and other personalized options, with a large area of soft wrapping materials and piano paint decorative panels, creating a warm and fashionable atmosphere . The steering wheel is upgraded to a 4-way adjustable type for the whole system, wrapped in high-quality leather with a comfortable touch, and the center console is equipped with a compact and exquisite shift lever, making the operation more concise and convenient . In terms of features, the standard model comes equipped with 16-inch wheels, front and rear airbags, high-definition panoramic images, rear parking sensors, automatic air conditioning, Type A+C combination charging ports, and a rear windshield wiper, among other practical functions . The higher-spec models add DiPilot intelligent driving assistance system, 50W wireless phone charging with active cooling, front seat ventilation and heating, rear privacy glass, and ambient lights, further enhancing the comfort and safety of the vehicle .
Powertrain
The BYD Dolphin is a pure electric vehicle exclusively equipped with a front-mounted single permanent magnet synchronous electric motor, paired with a single-speed electric transmission, built on the BYD e-Platform 3.0, bringing a quiet, smooth and energy-saving driving experience . The motor has two power tunings: the low-power version has a maximum power of 70 kW and a peak torque of 180 Nm, while the high-power version has a maximum power of 150 kW and a peak torque of 310 Nm, with an official 0-100 km/h acceleration time of about 10.4 seconds for the low-power version, ensuring a brisk and flexible driving experience suitable for urban commuting . The vehicle is equipped with BYD blade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs of multiple capacities: 44.928 kWh and 60.48 kWh, offering CLTC-rated pure electric ranges of 420 km and 520 km respectively, and a 302 km version is also available to meet the needs of users with short commuting distances . In fast-charging mode, it takes approximately 30 minutes to charge from 30% to 80%, and AC normal charging is also supported, effectively solving the anxiety of daily travel and short-distance trips . In addition, the whole system is upgraded with a four-link independent rear suspension, carefully tuned by the former Mercedes-Benz chassis expert Hans team, further improving the riding comfort and handling performance .
