The Isuzu D-MAX is built based on the “BOLD BUT EMOTIONAL” design philosophy, featuring a robust and dynamic mid-size pickup truck silhouette that perfectly balances rugged functionality, off-road capability and modern aesthetics. Its front fascia adopts the brand’s exclusive “World Cross Flow” design feature, with a double-layer air intake grille that creates a strong sense of hierarchy, seamlessly integrated with sharp Bi-LED headlight groups (halogen headlights for entry-level models) whose vertical size is compressed to enhance the aggressive and modern look of the front end. The front bumper is equipped with a new functional “air curtain” at the lower end, which reduces resistance in the wheel well to improve aerodynamic efficiency, paired with rugged decorative elements that further highlight its tough off-road demeanor. The body side features a cleverly designed seam between the cab and the cargo box, which serves as the visual center of gravity and guides the line of sight to the rear, effectively avoiding the imbalance of the pickup’s front-heavy and rear-light visual proportion; the cab’s shoulder line extends to the cargo box railing, strengthening the connection between the two parts. The rugged wheel arches and side steps enhance the sense of power, paired with optional 18-inch alloy wheels and off-road tires, while pop-up door handles and subtle body curves add a touch of refinement. The rear adopts an integrated rear bumper that fuses with the cargo box railing, weakening the traditional pickup’s bumper seam and smoothing the rear airflow; the integrated LED taillight group is compact and practical, paired with a tailgate assist system for easy opening and closing. The body is available in multiple color options, including Sunstone Orange Mica, catering to the aesthetic preferences of off-road enthusiasts, commercial users and family consumers.
In terms of dimensions, the D-MAX features a well-proportioned body structure that balances passenger comfort and cargo capacity. It has a length of approximately 5,265 mm, a width of 1,870 mm, and a height of 1,810 mm, with a wheelbase of 3,125 mm, ensuring ample headroom and legroom for front and rear passengers. The vehicle adopts a 4-door 5-seat double cab layout (single cab and extended cab options are also available), with a cargo box that can easily accommodate heavy goods, outdoor equipment and daily items, meeting the needs of both commercial transportation and outdoor adventures. It also features humanized exterior configurations such as power-folding side mirrors with heating function, front fog lights, and a rearview camera with a hydrophobic coating, further enhancing convenience and safety. The overall aerodynamic performance is optimized through details such as the front air curtain and streamlined body design, effectively reducing fuel consumption during driving.
Interior Design
The Isuzu D-MAX boasts a practical and refined interior that combines durability with humanized design, featuring a clean and functional layout that prioritizes usability and comfort. The dashboard, door panels and center console are mainly made of high-quality plastic materials with excellent craftsmanship, paired with silver decorative strips and hexagonal details (following the “Hexa-Pod” design principle) to enhance the sense of hierarchy; the soft trim on the interior adopts a checkered converging point design based on the “Miura-Ori” origami concept, adding a touch of refinement. The center console adopts a simple and intuitive layout, with an 8.0-inch infotainment screen for entry-level and mid-range models, and a 9.0-inch screen with satellite navigation for high-end models, supporting wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and 3.0A USB-C connections. A row of round-shaped physical buttons for automatic constant temperature air conditioning is arranged below the central control screen, with large buttons that are easy to operate during driving. The three-spoke multifunctional steering wheel has a comfortable grip, with multifunctional buttons integrated on the left side of high-end models for controlling Bluetooth and audio. The dual-circular electronic instrument panel displays information such as fuel consumption and cruising range clearly, ensuring the driver can grasp driving data at a glance. Interior color schemes are mainly black, with red accents for high-end models, focusing on durability and practicality to adapt to various usage scenarios.
In terms of features, the standard model comes equipped with alloy wheels, multiple airbags, front and rear parking sensors, a rearview camera with a wide-angle lens, automatic air conditioning, tire pressure monitoring, remote keyless entry, high-power USB charge ports, and a multi-speaker surround sound system, among other practical and safety functions. Mid-range and high-end models add more premium configurations, including leather-trimmed seats, 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seats, 4-way power-adjustable passenger seats, heated front seats, and a USB-A output on the rearview mirror (convenient for connecting dashcams or off-road mapping equipment). The vehicle is also equipped with the fourth-generation stereo camera, which increases the field of view by 200% and the range by 25%, supporting advanced ADAS functions such as intelligent cruise control (which can read speed signs and adjust speed automatically), lane-keeping assist, and rear cross-traffic alert (which can be used off-road). The seats have good wrapping and support, and the front seat posture is relatively high, which can be adjusted electronically to meet the comfort needs of different drivers. The whole vehicle is equipped with multiple storage spaces, including door panel storage boxes, cup holders and under-center-console storage compartments, fully meeting daily use needs.
Powertrain
The Isuzu D-MAX offers diverse powertrain options to meet different performance and usage needs, mainly equipped with diesel engines that focus on durability, low-end torque and fuel economy. The flagship model is powered by a new 4JJ3 3.0T turbocharged diesel engine, which delivers a maximum power of 155 kW and a peak torque of 560 Nm, capable of outputting 380 Nm of torque at 1000 rpm, showing excellent low-end torque performance that is very suitable for heavy loading and extreme off-roading. The entry-level and mid-range models are equipped with an RZ4E 1.9T turbocharged diesel engine, with a maximum power of 130 kW and a peak torque of 410 Nm. Both engines adopt advanced technologies such as low explosion pressure and five-time fuel injection, optimizing fuel efficiency while ensuring power output. All powertrains are paired with a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission, which delivers smooth shifting and reliable performance, adapting to various complex driving scenarios.
The vehicle is available in two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive layouts, with the four-wheel drive version equipped with the MLOCK mechanical locking intelligent four-wheel drive system, supporting off-road functions such as novice off-road mode, tank turn and creep mode, and designed with exclusive protection and structural reinforcement schemes for sand, coastal, heavy loading and other scenarios. It has excellent fuel economy, with a comprehensive fuel consumption of 8.6 L/100km for the 3.0T model. The vehicle is equipped with a Hando Shield chassis system, featuring a full-flat chassis protection design, with pipelines and key components protected; the frame adopts a two-longitudinal and ten-transverse structure, which increases torsional performance by 21.8%. It is equipped with all-steel upper and lower control arms, three-level stiffness springs and an industry-exclusive front suspension anti-roll bar, with a minimum turning radius of 6 meters, greatly improving handling flexibility. It also features 4-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock braking system (ABS) and electronic parking brake (EPB) with auto hold, with a braking capacity of 3.5 tons, ensuring safe and reliable driving performance. The powertrain has passed more than 4 million kilometers of real-vehicle testing and more than 10,000 hours of bench testing, with excellent reliability, making it suitable for commercial transportation, daily commuting and off-road adventures.
