The BJ40e is a range-extended, smart-driving, rugged SUV launched by Beijing Off-Road on April 7, 2025, and built on the BJ40 series platform. The vehicle retains off-road features such as a body-on-frame construction, a built-in metal roll cage, and—on select versions—three electronically controlled differential locks (front, center, and rear) along with an intelligent electric full-time four-wheel-drive system; hot-formed steel and high-strength steel account for 79.8% of the body. It is powered by a powertrain consisting of a 1.5T range-extender and dual front and rear electric motors, delivering a combined system power of 403 kW and a combined torque of 655 N·m. Its CLTC combined range is 1,200 kilometers, while the long-range version achieves a combined range of up to 1,300 kilometers.

Exterior Design

The Beijing BJ40e adopts a hard-core square body design with a vertical front grille and rectangular LED headlight groups. The vehicle is equipped with exposed wheel arches, roof rails and an external spare tire. It is available in multiple exterior color options.

In terms of dimensions, the vehicle measures 4790 mm in length, 1940 mm in width, and 1964 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2760 mm. It adopts a 5-door 5-seat SUV body structure. The vehicle is built with a non-load-bearing body, with a minimum ground clearance of 215 mm, a approach angle of 38 degrees and a departure angle of 37 degrees.

Interior Design

The Beijing BJ40e is equipped with a full LCD digital instrument cluster and a floating central control touchscreen. The interior is fitted with multi-functional physical control buttons and multiple interior color schemes.

In terms of configuration, the standard model comes with front side airbags, front and rear parking sensors, rearview camera, cruise control and 2.2 kW external power output function. The higher-spec versions are equipped with Level 2.5 driver-assistance systems, active braking, 360-degree panoramic camera system and electric adjustable heated and ventilated front seats.

Powertrain

The Beijing BJ40e is equipped with a 1.5T turbocharged range extender and front and rear dual electric motors. The range extender delivers a maximum power of 138 kW. The front motor outputs 153 kW and the rear motor outputs 250 kW, with a comprehensive system maximum power of 403 kW and a peak torque of 655 Nm. It is matched with a single-speed electric transmission.

The vehicle is equipped with a 40.3 kWh ternary lithium battery pack. The CLTC pure electric cruising range is 152 km, and the full fuel and full electric comprehensive cruising range reaches 1200 km. It supports fast charging, with a charging time of approximately 30 minutes from 30% to 80% battery level.
