Exterior Design
The Volkswagen ID.4 X adopts Volkswagen’s new family-style design language for its ID. series electric vehicles, inheriting rigorous German craftsmanship while integrating minimalist, futuristic and dynamic elements that fit its positioning as a compact pure electric SUV. It features a sleek and integrated closed front fascia with a distinctive X-shaped design, paired with an integrated IQ.Light intelligent matrix LED headlight system and a luminous Volkswagen logo, which is seamlessly connected with a narrow through-type LED light strip, creating a sophisticated and technological visual effect. The lower grille is decorated with exquisite wing-shaped strips and diamond-patterned elements, adding a vivid sense of hierarchy. The distinctive linear daytime running lights and symmetrical through-type LED rhythmic taillights further highlight its unique identity, and the taillights are designed to widen the visual width of the rear. The side of the body adopts a dynamic streamlined curved design, with smooth through-type waistlines that create a diving posture, paired with touch-sensitive hidden door handles, streamlined roof and 19-inch sporty alloy wheels, highlighting its agile and stable posture, while the black wheel arches and front and rear black surround kits further enhance its sporty temperament. The body is available in three color options: Crystal White, Ionic Gray, and Cyber Yellow.
In terms of dimensions, the vehicle measures 4,612 mm in length, 1,852 mm in width, and 1,640 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,765 mm. Benefiting from the short front and rear overhang design of the MEB platform, the interior legroom and headroom are well-designed despite its compact body, and the overall interior space is practical and comfortable, perfectly meeting the needs of daily urban commuting and small family use. The rear seats feature a 40/60 split-folding design, which not only improves the flexibility of storage and seating but also expands the trunk space significantly, easily accommodating items such as luggage, daily necessities and small camping gear for travel or daily use. The vehicle also has a low drag coefficient of 0.28Cd, balancing dynamic aesthetics and range optimization.
Interior Design
The Volkswagen ID.4 X is equipped with a 5.3-inch full LCD digital instrument cluster and a 12.9-inch floating central touchscreen, forming a seamless connected cockpit powered by the latest ID. OS 5.0 intelligent cockpit operating system, delivering an outstanding visual experience and smooth operation. It also features an AR-HUD augmented reality head-up display that projects driving information and navigation onto the windshield for easy viewing, and is equipped with an intelligent voice assistant that supports multi-round dialogue, dialect recognition and independent wake-up for the main and co-pilot. Interior color schemes include All Black, Black with Gray stitching, and three-color seat matching, catering to different personalized and usage scenarios. In terms of features, the standard model comes equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels, front and rear airbags, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, and keyless entry/start, among other practical functions. The higher-spec version adds Level 2 driver-assistance systems, active braking, a 360-degree panoramic camera, a panoramic sunroof, front seat heating/ventilation, as well as a high-quality in-vehicle sound system for an enhanced audio experience.
The interior adopts high-quality materials, with a reasonable combination of soft wrapping and fine plastic parts, paired with exquisite stitching craftsmanship and metal decorative strips, enhancing the sense of comfort and technology. It adopts a column-mounted electronic knob shifter design unique to the ID. series, which frees up the central channel space and adds a wireless phone charging panel and practical storage grids. The center console follows the driver-centric ergonomic design with a minimalist style, reducing redundant buttons and facilitating blind operation during driving. The interior is equipped with multiple practical storage spaces, including a large-capacity armrest box, a storage grid in front of the gearshift, and door panels that can hold large water bottles, bringing great convenience to daily use. The seats are made of high-grade artificial leather, with comfortable padding and sufficient support, and the front seats are equipped with electric adjustment function in higher-spec versions, effectively reducing driving fatigue during long trips. The vehicle is also equipped with an intelligent air conditioning system that can automatically adjust according to the actual situation, providing a comfortable riding experience.
Powertrain
The Volkswagen ID.4 X is based on the MEB pure electric platform and offers three powertrain options to meet different driving needs. The first option is a rear-mounted single motor with a maximum power output of 125 kW and peak torque of 310 Nm, equipped with a 52.8 kWh ternary lithium battery pack, offering a CLTC-rated range of up to 425 km. The second option is also a rear-mounted single motor with a maximum power of 170 kW and peak torque of 310 Nm, paired with an 80.2 kWh ternary lithium battery pack, with an official 0-50 km/h acceleration time of 3.2 seconds and a CLTC-rated range of up to 601 km. The third option is front-rear dual motors, with a combined maximum power of 230 kW and peak torque of 472 Nm, equipped with a high-capacity ternary lithium battery pack, providing strong power performance. In fast-charging mode, it takes approximately 30 to 40 minutes to charge from 30% to 80%.
The powertrain adopts mature electric vehicle technologies such as high-efficiency permanent magnet synchronous motors and advanced battery management systems, which not only improve power response but also enhance energy efficiency and battery durability. The battery pack has passed 338 strict tests, including collision, fire and needle pricking, ensuring extreme safety. The transmission system features smooth power output and high transmission efficiency, and the energy recovery system supports multi-level adjustment, balancing comfort and range efficiency. The chassis adopts a front MacPherson and rear multi-link independent suspension with professional German tuning, ensuring precise steering and stable driving, and the suspension adjustment balances comfort and handling, providing a comfortable, energy-efficient and stable driving experience for users in various road conditions. It also adds intelligent driving assistance functions such as ABA turning emergency braking and AWU steering avoidance assistance to enhance driving safety.
