Exterior Design
The BYD Sealion 05 EV adopts BYD’s Marine Aesthetics design language, presenting a youthful and avant-garde urban SUV stance. Its front fascia features a closed-off grille paired with an LED water-flow through-type light strip and a “figure-eight” front bumper, delivering a clean, generous, and approaching look. On both sides, J-shaped daytime running lights integrate wave-inspired elements, while the multi-layered front bumper with black air intakes enhances sportiness.
The side profile showcases a sleek, dynamic character line with a smooth roofline extending to the D-pillar, accentuating a “flying close to the ground” posture. It comes with half-hidden door handles, a two-tone floating roof (black with body color on the D-pillar), and 17/18-inch low-drag geometric alloy wheels, reducing wind resistance for better energy efficiency. At the rear, a wave-inspired double-thread through-type taillight with an illuminated “BYD” logo ensures high recognition, complemented by a sporty rear spoiler to amplify the athletic vibe.
The vehicle is available in four exterior colors: Ocean White, Junyao Gray, Warm Sun White, and Muchuan Cyan. In terms of dimensions, it measures 4,520 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, and 1,630 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,720 mm. It offers a 110L front trunk and a 600L rear trunk, ensuring flexible storage for daily commutes and outdoor trips.
Interior Design
The interior of the Sealion 05 EV continues the Marine Aesthetics theme, creating a minimalist and elegant “Ocean Embrace Cabin”. The dashboard features an embedded 8.8-inch full LCD instrument cluster and a 12.8-inch rotating floating central touchscreen, delivering a clear, expansive, and tech-rich visual experience. The center console adopts a layered design with a through-type ambient light strip, while the steering wheel uses a marine network-style design with multifunctional buttons, paired with a column-mounted electronic shifter for more intuitive operation and extra space.
Highlights include soft-wrapped faux fiber leather on high-wear areas like door panels and the lower instrument panel, offering a delicate texture and enhanced durability. Interior color schemes include Seasalt Gray and Starry Sky Black, catering to personalized preferences. The rear seats adopt a 4/6 split-folding design, which can be fully flattened to expand the trunk space to 1,340L, easily accommodating camping gear and large items.
In terms of features, the standard model is equipped with front side airbags, rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, cruise control, and a 50W wireless charging panel. The higher-spec version adds front seat ventilation/heating, a -6°C to 50°C car refrigerator, a magnetic LED makeup mirror, and a 12V power outlet in the trunk for enhanced comfort and practicality. It also comes standard with BYD’s DiLink 100 intelligent cockpit, supporting multi-zone voice interaction, 3D vehicle control, and customized navigation, while the 128-color ambient light and 8-speaker audio system elevate the cabin’s ambiance.
Powertrain
The Sealion 05 EV is built on BYD’s e-platform 3.0 Evo, featuring a rear-mounted single-motor rear-wheel-drive layout for agile handling. It offers two power options: a 140 kW motor with 330 N·m peak torque (0–100 km/h in 7.6 seconds) and a 160 kW motor with the same 330 N·m peak torque (0–100 km/h in 7.2 seconds). Paired with a single-speed electric transmission, it achieves an official top speed of 160 km/h, balancing performance and efficiency.
It is equipped with BYD Blade LFP batteries (high-safety long-life lithium iron phosphate batteries) with capacities of 50.048 kWh and 60.928 kWh, delivering CLTC-rated ranges of 430 km and 520 km respectively, covering daily commutes and short self-driving trips. The 520 km version supports a maximum DC fast-charging power of 156 kW, while the 430 km version reaches 130 kW; both can charge from 30% to 80% in approximately 18 minutes, making refueling quick and convenient. Additionally, it comes standard with Vehicle-to-Load (VTOL) mobile power supply, allowing external connection of electrical appliances for outdoor camping and outdoor activities. The vehicle also features a front MacPherson strut and rear five-link independent suspension, with a minimum turning radius of 4.65 meters, ensuring flexible maneuverability in urban environments.
