Tesla’s autonomous taxi service posted on social media platform X, stating, “Unsupervised Robotaxis are now in service throughout the Austin metropolitan area.”

It is understood that Tesla’s autonomous taxi service has been operating in Austin since last summer. Tesla previously stated that, to prioritize safety during the rollout of this new technology, the company had delayed the expansion of its geofenced areas, fleet size, and other supporting details.

During the service’s initial phase, customers sometimes faced wait times exceeding 30 minutes. As of 10 a.m. on the day of the announcement, the driverless service had expanded to cover the entire geofenced area. However, the current scale of the driverless Robotaxi service remains small, with only about 50 vehicles in operation.
