Xiaomi YU7 GT Sets New Nürburgring Lap Record for SUVs

Xiaomi Auto announced today that its high-performance model, the Xiaomi YU7 GT, set a new SUV lap record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife (commonly known as the “Nürburgring”) with a time of 7 minutes, 34.931 seconds. This achievement not only broke the track’s previous SUV lap record but also marks the first time a Chinese driver has set an officially certified lap record at the Nürburgring.

Ren Zhoucan, the driver for this test, became the first Chinese professional driver to receive this honor. After completing the challenge, he stated that the Nürburgring is renowned for its complex and ever-changing layout, posing a significant test of both vehicle performance and driver skill. This breakthrough demonstrates the R&D capabilities of Chinese brands in the high-performance sector and sets a new milestone for Chinese motorsports.

Lei Jun, founder of Xiaomi Group, specifically emphasized that setting lap times for SUVs at the Nürburgring presents unique challenges. Due to their higher center of gravity and greater drag coefficient, such vehicles typically struggle to match the lap times of supercars. Through aerodynamic optimization, lightweight design, and powertrain tuning, the Xiaomi YU7 GT successfully overcame these technical hurdles, ultimately achieving this historic breakthrough.

It is reported that the Xiaomi YU7 GT will officially launch on May 21 at 7:00 PM. Lei Jun revealed that the model was built to authentic GT sports car standards from the very beginning, with every detail validated to track-level standards. This achievement at the Nürburgring serves as both an authoritative certification of the product’s performance and provides consumers with a more compelling basis for their purchasing decisions.
